Frequently asked questions

What is an SGO file?
An SGO file is the flash container ODIS Engineering uses to program a control unit. It carries the software for one software part number and version, so the file name tells you exactly which version you will flash.
What is an FRF file?
An FRF file is the encrypted flash container used by ODIS Service, the workshop diagnostic system. It is matched to the control unit by its software part number in the same way as an SGO file.
How do I find the right file for my control unit?
Read the software part number, software version and component from the control unit identification in ODIS or VCDS, for example 1K0 035 180 AF, version 0008, DE2. Search for the part number here and compare version and component with what your control unit reports.
Which tool do I need to flash the file?
SGO files are flashed with ODIS Engineering, FRF files with ODIS Service and SOX files with VAS-PC, through a compatible diagnostic interface such as a VAS 6154 or VAS 5054A. Always back up the current software before flashing.
